Lack of employment and income opportunities is one of the major challenges faced by women living in disadvantaged communities. Without access to appropriate skills, training, and resources, many women remain dependent on others despite having the ability and willingness to work. Skills development can provide a practical pathway toward greater independence.
People’s International Foundation believes that every woman has the potential to learn, grow, and contribute economically when provided with the right support. Skills-based training can help women develop practical abilities that are relevant to local economic opportunities. These may include handicrafts, tailoring, small-scale entrepreneurship, food processing, agricultural activities, digital skills, or other income-generating initiatives.
However, training alone is not always enough. Sustainable livelihood development also requires awareness, mentoring, access to resources, financial knowledge, and opportunities to use newly acquired skills. That is why a comprehensive approach to livelihood development can make a meaningful difference in the lives of women and their families.
When a woman starts earning through her own skills, the impact often reaches far beyond her personal income. Increased earnings can contribute to better household nutrition, children’s education, healthcare, housing, and overall family stability. At the same time, women gain greater confidence and become more involved in decisions affecting their families and communities.
Our goal is to support women in moving from dependency toward self-reliance by helping them develop practical skills and access meaningful livelihood opportunities. By investing in skills today, we can help create a future where disadvantaged women have the confidence, resources, and opportunities to build sustainable livelihoods and contribute to a stronger society.
